With about 1 1/2 weeks left before the All-Star break I’m curious to know who you think is the Mets MVP is so far this season.

During the middle of the Mets game last night, I received the following text message from one of my friends who is also a Mets fan: “Are they setting us up man?”

Based on what’s happened to this team over the last three seasons and how this team has let us fans down in the past, I can totally understand why my friend and any other Mets fan would be a bit apprehensive about this team even though they are playing really well right now. Mets fans displayed that they were in mid-season form on opening day by booing the team training staff during introductions. Earlier this week, a slumping David Wright heard the boo birds at Citi Field.

Personally I am one who does not boo my own players but at the same time I don’t criticize fans who do boo. What are your thoughts on booing? Is it ok for fans to boo their own players? Take the poll below and let me know your thoughts.

Today is Oliver Perez’s first start of the season. Perez is coming off a bad year last season and a bad spring this year. Vote in the poll below and let me know how many innings will Oliver Perez pitch today.

According to various reports (you can see one of them here at Amazin Avenue) the Mets cut Nelson Figueroa, Chris Carter, Bobby Parnell, Kiko Calero, Elmer Dessens and Russ Adams. I’m having some good debate on Twitter about this with a number of Mets fans. Please take the poll below and let me know which move surprises you the most.

In my opinion 2009 was a disappointing season for Mike Pelfrey. I was expecting Pelfrey to “turn the corner”, step up and become a solid starting pitcher for the Mets and he just didn’t do that.

In 2009 Pelfrey was 10-12 with a 5.03 ERA. With that said, I think because Pelfrey is still a young pitcher (26 yrs old) he will eventually grow into a solid/front of the rotation starting pitcher. In 2009 Luis Castillo played in 142 games and put up the following stats: .302 avg | 147 H | 12 2b | 20 SB. Dispite a dropped ball against the Yankees, in my opinion Castillo was the Mets 2009 team MVP due to his consistency throughout the season. Coming off what I think was his best season in 4 years the Mets unsuccessfully tried to trade him over the off-season.
