Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan Are A Nice 1-2 Punch

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

I really like the combination Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan at the top of the Mets lineup. Jerry Manuel is going to have some interesting decisions to make if/when Luis Castillo and Carlos Beltran come back. Castillo normally bats second and well Carlos Beltran is the Mets starting Center Fielder. I just don’t see how you can break up Reyes and Pagan at this point. Below are the offensive stats for both players in their respective batting positions so far this season.

Jose Reyes – Batting Lead-off: 42 G | 185 AB | .303 Avg | 9 2b | 4 3b | 3 HR | 12 BB | 11 SB | 27 Runs

Angel Pagan - Batting Second: 13 G | 56 AB | .286 Avg | 5 2b | 1 3b | 0 HR | 5 BB | 4 SB | 8 Runs

Areas I’d Like To See Jose Reyes Improve

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I understand he missed all of last year, had no spring training this season but it’s still frustrating to watch Jose Reyes struggle. With that said, Reyes is back in the lead off spot and below are three areas where I’d like to see some improvement in the very near future. His improvements could lead to a spark in the Mets offense. These graphs are courtesy of FanGraphs and if Reyes can improve in these areas it would mean he’s getting on base more and we all know thats what the Mets offense needs.

Thoughts: Jason Bay Power and Jose Reyes Legs

In the video below I discuss the results from a recent poll. Watch below as I give my thoughts on why Jason Bay and Jose Reyes have been disappointing so far this season.

Mets Are Right Where They Belong In Last Place

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Sorry, no video today so I’ll leave you with this.

The New York Mets have now lost 5 in a row, 7 out of 8 and sit in last place in the NL East. Wonder why they are in last place? Take a look at some of these stats below.

  • The Mets 4th (Jason Bay) and 5th (David Wright) hitters have a combined 91 strike outs on the season.
  • The team spark plug Jose Reyes is batting .221 and has an OBP of .269.
  • The last time a Mets starting pitcher won a game was Jonathon Niese on April 30, 2010 against the Phillies. In my opinion this means two things 1) Starters are not consistently pitching deep into games and 2) When the starter does pitch well, the offense isn’t hitting.
  • Speaking of the offense, with runners in scoring position, the Mets are batting .236 which ranks them 26th out of 30 MLB teams.
  • Fundamentals: This can’t be over looked. Time and time again this year we have seen this team fail to do the little things. Things like: not being able to execute a bunt, not move the runner over with less than two outs, field or catch a ball cleanly, base running mistakes, etc.. No team will consistently win if they can’t execute on fundamentals.
  • The Mets schedule this week includes a hot Atlanta Braves team, an energized Washington Nationals squad & the New York Yankees. If they don’t get it together quick, this could get real ugly.

MLB Debut: Ike Davis and Other Mets Notables

    Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Ike Davis MLB career got off to a good start last night as the kid went 2-4, 1 RBI. Below is a listing of recent New York Mets notables who made their MLB debut under similar hype and pressure.

  • What does all this mean? Not much, it’s just one game but it’s interesting to look at how some of the recent Mets prospects have performed in their first game under all the hype.
