Below is a listing of the top five most viewed stories on OnTheBlack.com for the month of January 2010

1. Early on in January I answered the question: Which Pitcher Should The Mets Pursue. Here we are weeks later and the Mets still haven’t pursued any of them and the list of free agent pitchers continues to get smaller and smaller…

2. As we get closer to the start of the season, I’m going to be asking you guys a number of different predictions for the upcoming season. The first one is how many stolen bases will Jose Reyes have in 2010. To see the results of over 300 votes click here.

3. In case you missed it, check out photos of my Willie Randolph and Cliff Floyd Autograph baseball.

4. In this video post, I try to wrap my head around the trade for Gary Matthews Jr.

5. Jason Bay is easily the biggest off-season move for the Mets (so far). To learn more about him, check out this blog post.

I’ll give you more on this game in my series recap towards the end of the week. For now, below is some video I shot during the game. I hope you enjoy it!

If your having trouble viewing this video, try the Quicktime version

Some Additional Thoughts and Happenings At The Game:

Firsts:

Jody Gerut got the first hit and homerun in Citi Field history. Which means everyone that took the poll was wrong (including me).

David Wright delivered the first Met homerun with a roaring three run shot over the left field fence that at the time, tied the game. It’s only fitting that the face of the Met franchise had the first New York Met homerun in Citi Field history.

Cheers and Boos:

Cheered – Cliff Floyd: It was good to see “Uncle Cliff” back in the building. He will always be a fan favorite.

Booed – Sweet Caroline: All Met fans including me are tired of hearing this song played. Let’s be original and not copy other teams, please.

Booed – Duaner Sanchez and Heath Bell: Both Sanchez and Bell got the last laugh as they each pitched 1-2-3 innings in the 8th and 9th to close out the game. I must say, very painful to watch.

Atmosphere:

The game had the feeling of an October playoff game. It was cold and the fans were into it from the beginning. Unfortunately, the Mets opened their new park the same way they closed Shea, with a loss. Nevertheless, I was happy to be there. Also, don’t forget to check out some Photos I took at the game as well.

In The News:

Dwight Gooden will be appearing tomorrow (Wednesday April 15) from 3:30-4:45 at Modell’s Times Square location (West 42nd Street & 7th Avenue) to promote the Mo’s Zone & Modell’s Clubhouse at Citi Field.

The Mo’s Zone is the 72 foot span along the outfield warning track where the padded outfield wall is replaced by a chain link fence. Right above are sections 101 & 102 in Citi Field’s Field Level where there is seating for nearly 400 fans.

Beneath the Mo’s Zone is The Modell’s Clubhouse. The Modell’s Clubhouse is set behind the chain link fence and has a dugout-style benches in front of garage doors. Those doors open up to a private group hospitality area which can accommodate up to 70 fans. The coolest aspect of the seating is that you there is only a chain link fence in between you and the playing field.
