Wednesday, March 10th, 2010Interview: Jonathan Bentz On Mets Fantasy Baseball Players
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010I recently conducted a phone interview with fantasy baseball expert Jonathan Bentz from Fantasy Baseball Dugout. We discussed New York Mets player options for the 2010 fantasy baseball season. Watch/Listen to the video below as Jonathan explains who he thinks is the Mets number one fantasy player, his thoughts on Jose Reyes, who could be a sleeper pick this year and more.
Links: Beltran Responds, Mike Pelfrey & David Wright
Friday, January 15th, 2010Happy Friday. Here are a few links to get your day going.
-Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last few days, you know that Carlos Beltran had surgery on his knee and the Mets are not happy about it. Beltran recently responded to the Mets. Check out Metsblog to see Beltran’s comments. My thoughts: It’s really unbelievable how many issues fill the Mets organization from top to bottom. No reality TV show can compete with the drama that is the New York Mets. I wonder if this would have happened a few weeks earlier if Jason Bay would have still signed with this team…
-WFAN had a number of Mets visit their radio station this week. One of the more entertaining interviews was Mike Pelfrey on the Boomer and Carton Show.
-In the video below courtesy of NJ.com David Wright discusses the upcoming 2010 season. This interview was done a few days before the the Beltran mess came out so it’s kind of funny to hear Wright say “we have to find a way to stay healthy…”

In the video post above I discuss why I chose Angel Pagan as New York Mets Player of the Month and why I feel that Pagan should be no more then a 4th outfielder for the Mets next season. I also discuss the return of David Wright, Carlos Beltran and the Josh Thole call-up.
Should The Mets Wounded Come Back This Year?

Twitter Responses:
NYMetsGrrl94 – I want to see Wright play. I’d rather not go into the offseason with ??? about his health and wondering if he is okay.
ZekeO73 – I don’t wanna see them. If Delgado and Wagner come off the DL, I would ship them to a contender. It’s all about 2010 for me.
thebrowncoat – Nope. Shut them all down and get them ready for next year.
Mets Fans Open To Trading Reyes or Beltran

Twitter Question: Sensitive Question Mets Fans: If the team can fill multiple needs (say LF & Starting Pitcher) would you be open to trading Reyes or Beltran?
Twitter Responses:
- joewhitmarsh – Yes. It’s time to mix things up.
- kranepool – trade Beltran keep Reyes
- MaxwellRomero – maybe reyes but not beltran and ONLY for a solid SP one bat (short of Pujols) won’t cure our lineup problems.
- darknova306 – I’m doubtful of Reyes’ long-term leg health, so he should go while he’s worth something.
- Citi_Field – I would give up Reyes. Not Beltran. I’ll give up Fernando Martinez instead of Beltran.
- csball2000 – Would definitely trade Reyes to fill needs. Team has too many holes.
- ayshneck – trade reyes for a new medical/training staff!
- swirlywand – I don’t want to trade Jose a) we don’t have another short stop b) I fear he would go on to be a star
- dave_doyle – Keep Reyes! Good player, better contract.
- RDevinHughes – I’m not a Mets fan…but heck no.

Series Recap: Mets Sweep Mini Set In Atlanta
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009The New York Mets swept a mini two game series in Atlanta, improving their record to 12-13 on the season. Below is my series recap.

Series Take-Aways:
- Nice Road Trip: Mets won 3 out of 4 against the Phillies and Braves. Anytime you can go on the road against your two biggest rivals and produce good results is a positive sign. Also, since the Mets pitching staff has been struggling, it was also nice to see this the Mets win 3 out of 4 without Santana pitching.
- David Wright: Wright is showing signs that he’s starting to heat up. Against the Braves: 4-9 | 3 RBI | 1 HR. Hopefully Wright is starting to turn the corner and get that bat going.
- Team Showing Emotion: In last nights game you saw something from the Mets that you normally don’t see and that’s emotion. After an error Castillo slammed his glove in frustration and after making an out, Wright showed similar frustration in the dugout. I think this emotion is a good thing. It’s showing that the team has some life, some fire and it will be interesting to see if this can carry over to betting play on the field.
Who’s Hot and Who’s Not:
- Who’s Hot? How about Carlos Beltran? As I stated in my Carlos Beltran player profile post yesterday, Beltran continues to tear it up. He is batting over .400 and has 16 game hitting streak. Beltran has also been on base every game this year.
- Who’s Not? How about Jose Reyes? Two weeks ago Reyes was batting .339. His average is now down to .257. Also, he only has 6 SB on the season. As everyone knows, as Jose Reyes goes, so does the Mets offense and right now Reyes is seriously struggling.
Next Up For The Mets:
- The Mets are home to welcome the Phillies for a three game series. I’ll be looking to see if Oliver Perez gets into a game out of the pen and see how he performs and what type of role the Mets use him in.
Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.
Player Profile: Carlos Beltran is On Fire

–Video Courtesy of ESPN.com
I have always regarded Carlos Beltran as the best all around Center Fielder in Baseball. He’s a gold glove outfielder with all the offensive tools anyone could want. So far this year (outside of a not sliding) he’s been the New York Mets best position player and proving to everyone why he was worth the 7-year, $119-million contract the Mets signed him to back in 2005.
Beltran is easily the hottest offensive player in the Mets line-up right now. He’s got a 15 game hitting streak and has reached base in every game this year. Beltran is batting: .400 | 4 HR | 18 RBIs. He hit two HRs on Monday and lead the Mets to a 6-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
At a time when Jose Reyes and David Wright are struggling and Carlos Delgado has been out due to injury, Beltran has been that core guy carrying the Mets offense. I think the one thing that is most impressive about Beltran’s hot start this year is his average. Beltran is a life time .282 hitter but he’s on pace to hit over .300 for only the third time in his career. He’s hitting the ball to all fields, and this is the most comfortable I’ve seen Beltran at the plate since he’s been a Met. Let’s hope it continues, but right now Carlos Beltran is on pace to have one of his best year as a New York Met.
