WFAN Contest: I Passed The Initial Screening, Now I Wait

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I didn’t get a chance to blog about the Mets this morning because I was at Menlo Park Mall for a few hours auditioning for the WFAN Fantasy Phenom Contest. Basically this is a try-out to host your own show on WFAN – for one year.

Today, there were two phases in round one of the audition. First, an initial screening/mini interview. If you pass that then you get a shot to go on stage and “rant” for two minutes about a sports topic. I believe WFAN was only selecting 100 people to go on stage in front of the judges. About 300 or so people showed up. I’m happy to report that I passed the initial screening/mini interview and got a shot to go on stage in front of the judges to “rant” for two minutes. See pics below, I am contesting #24.

My “rant” – I talked for two minutes about my dissatisfaction that a team with financial troubles (Taxas Rangers) were able to land Cliff Lee and the Mets were not. Hat tip to the guy standing in line behind me who gave me the idea for the topic. If I win the contest you’ll be the first guest on my show :)

What’s next – now I wait for WFAN to contact me. WFAN has a few more auditions at various locations. If I make it to round two, that will take place in August. The Finals will be held live on the radio at the end of summer on August 27th…but we are a LONG way away from that. I’ll keep you guys posted if I make it to round two.

Check out a few pics I snapped with my iPhone while I was standing in line today.

Photos: Mets Hall of Fame and Museum

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

First let me say that I think the Mets did an outstanding job with the Hall of Fame & Museum. This is one of the best things the Mets organization has ever done for its fans. Below are the pics I took of the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum on opening day.

Mets Game Recap: Mets 7 – Marlins 1

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Quick Game Notes:

  • Final Score: Mets 7 – Marlins 1
  • Box Score: Click here for the complete box score.
  • Mets Record: 1-0
  • Key Moment In The Game: In my opinion the key moment of the game was the bottom of the 6th inning when the Mets scored 4 runs and opened up the game. In the top half of the inning it looked like Johan Santana was tiring as he gave up his only earned run of the game but the Mets offense gave the pitching staff some breathing room by scoring 4 times.
  • Game Ball: Johan Santana: 6 IP | 1 ER | 5 SO
  • Up Next: The Mets play their second game of this series against the Marlins Wednesday April 7, 2010 at 7:10pm
  • As most of you know, I was at the game today. Below are some photos I took today. Check back tomorrow for the Hall of Fame & Museum photos.

Photos: McFadden’s Citi Field, HR Apple and More

    Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Yesterday I took a trip out to McFadden’s Citi Field. Shawn Baker (GM of McFadden’s Citi Field) offered to give me a tour of the facility. Shawn is the same guy who hooked me up with McFadden’s in NYC to shoot the Mets Blogger Roundtable Series.

I was curious to see what progress had been made since Shannon of Mets Police posted these photos a couple weeks ago. My initial reaction: wow the inside of this place is huge. If you’ve ever been to the McFadden’s in NYC, you can probably fit three or four of those inside of this venue. My next reaction: there is a lot of work that still needs to be done in order for this place to be functioning for opening day. A few addition things:

  • Shawn says while there still is a lot of work to be done over the next 6 days, they are still planning to be open for business on opening day. He also added that a lot of the guys working on this project are Mets fans so that provides additional motivation for them to be ready opening day. Let’s hope they can get it done!
  • There is huge main room, where the bar is. There is also an additional room for dining and private parties.
  • If you haven’t heard by now, Boomer and Carton of WFAN plan on doing their morning show live from McFadden’s Citi Field on opening day. One of the photo below outlines where they will be stationed. Shawn says the plan is to open the doors at 9am for fans to come in.
  • Also below are some additional photos of the Home Run Apple on the move, bricks and banners.
  • I want to thank Shawn for giving me this tour and I wish you good luck over the next 6 days getting the place ready for the thousands of Mets fans hoping to see the place on opening day!
