Bloomberg Sports iPhone App: Single Stats

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

If you have an iPhone and haven’t checked out the Bloomberg Sports Front Office Baseball 2010 app, I recommend you do so. It’s a pretty neat app. Below is a Bloomberg Sports Video where they demonstrate how to look up single player stats. I recently download it from the iTunes app store so I’m looking forward to using it more and more.

Playing for Peanuts –Wally Backman Gets Ejected

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

A couple weeks ago I blogged a post game speech clip from Wally Backman. Watch the video below as Backman gets ejected.

Playing for Peanuts –Wally Backman Gets Ejected (Uncensored – NSFW). UNCENSORED VERSION. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

Please note that the Playing for Peanuts DVD has all the curses “bleeped out,” so the show is actually family-friendly. And for some reason, adding bleeps to Wally’s speeches makes them sound kind of funny. Click here to buy the 3-DVD Set for $24.99 + s/h. The 3-DVD set includes 10 episodes + Bonus Content and Deleted Scenes.

Playing for Peanuts – Wally Backman Post-Game Speech

Monday, May 10th, 2010

As some of you may remember, “Playing for Peanuts” was a reality/documentary show about minor league baseball that aired on SNY. The show followed the South Georgia Peanuts and their manager – former Mets 2B and current Brooklyn Cyclones skipper, Wally Backman.

Since Wally Backman is back in the Mets organization and will be spending all summer in Brooklyn, Peanuts producer John Fitzgerald is sending me some of the bonus footage that he has released online, along with commentary.

“Peanuts” producer John Fitzgerald is offering Mets bloggers a $5 commission for every 3-DVD set sold on the web. So if you like “Playing for Peanuts” series and want to help me out, please support us and Buy the 3-DVD Set for $24.99 + s/h.

Playing for Peanuts – Wally Backman Post-Game Speech (Uncensored – NSFW). UNCENSORED VERSION. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

John Fitzgerald:

This clip contains the audio of Wally’s postgame speech following the team’s first loss. We opted to keep our cameras out of the locker room, even though the coaching staff would have allowed us to film the speech. In retrospect, it would’ve been nice to have this speech on video, but the players were unfamiliar with our crew at the time so it was probably for the best. That said, I think this speech is a great example of how fired up Wally can get after a bad loss. Speeches like this seemed to motivate the team throughout the season – although Wally only got this fired up a few times. He only used this tactic when it was necessary.

Please note that the Playing for Peanuts DVD has all the curses “bleeped out,” so the show is actually family-friendly. And for some reason, adding bleeps to Wally’s speeches makes them sound kind of funny.Click here to buy the 3-DVD Set for $24.99 + s/h. Ike Davis: We Could Not Have Asked For Anything More

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

It’s still very early but seventeen games into his major league baseball career I don’t think we fans could have asked for anything more.

His stats: .314 BA| 3 HRs | 8 RBI | .410 OBP | .569 SLG

Since his call up the Mets are 12-5 and he has made two outstanding defensive plays. He’s given the Mets and it’s fan base a burst of energy. Check out the tribute video below from YouTube user RichMacLeodfilms.

Fellow Baseball Blogger Alliance member Shawn Anderson from The Hall of Very Good recently did a Q & A with former Mets catcher Gary Carter. Click here and read as they discuss his days as a Montreal Expo, the Hall of Fame and much more. Nice job Shawn.

Phillies Fan Gets Tasered

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Forget the extra enjoyment I get out of watching a Phillies fan get tasered :) . This is what should happen to any idiot who runs onto the field during a game.

Links: Answering Questions, Phillies Fans and The Emerald Guide to Baseball

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Here are a few links I’m reading today:

  • Caryn over at Metsgrrl explains how to answer the question, “So What Happened To Santana Last Night?” So far I’ve had to answer that question two times today.
  • Stop over at Mets Photos to read an email Michael Baron received from a fellow Mets fan who had a terrible experience at Citizens Bank Park last night.  In my opinion all teams have bad fans as well as good ones but for some reason it seems like the Phillies have a hire percentage of bad ones. Unreal.
  • The updated Emerald Guide to Baseball 2010 has just been posted on the SABR website. You can download it here.
  • Documentary: Playing for Peanuts

    Friday, April 9th, 2010

As some of you may remember, “Playing for Peanuts” was a reality/documentary show about minor league baseball that aired on SNY. The show followed the South Georgia Peanuts and their manager – former Mets 2B and current Brooklyn Cyclones skipper, Wally Backman. Since Wally Backman is back in the Mets organization, “Peanuts” producer John Fitzgerald has sent me some of the bonus footage that he has released online, along with some commentary. Check it out below.

Playing for Peanuts – Episode 1 (Segment 1)

    John Fitzgerald:

This is the first segment that aired on TV. My goal here was to set up the entire 10-episode TV series by explaining the backstory of Wally Backman – the ’86 Mets, his success as a minor league manager, and his legal troubles – in 8-minutes or less. I didn’t want to dwell on Wally’s past throughout the show, so all of the major details had to be covered right up front. To do this, I traveled to Wally’s hometown in Oregon for an in-depth interview and I also caught up with Jeff Pearlman (“The Bad Guys Won”) and Mark Healey (Gotham Baseball Magazine) for their thoughts on Wally’s past, present and future.

If interested you can Buy the 3-DVD Set (10 episodes + Bonus Content).
