2011 Player Review: Ruben Tejada

Posted on by Kerel Cooper

Unfortunately I think the biggest question regarding Tejada this off season is will he be the Mets everyday shortstop or will he be competing for second base next year. I really enjoyed watching Tejada develop as a player in 2011. Watch the video below to hear why.

I think its too soon to say for sure that he is an everyday player. But he did get over 320 ab and was able to do a very good job.I think the one thing we know for sure is that he is a major league quality player and that in itself is a really good thing for the mets.Worst case scenario i think we are talking about an infielder that has plus defense at ss and 2b should be able to play 3 positions.Ideally he is going to be a .280 hitter with 25 to 30 doubles and .350 obp and 10 to 15 sb.That i think everybody would take in a heartbeat from a ss.

Alot of Mets fans will disagree with me but i rather give Tejada the steady 2b job if Reyes resigns Defense and he does not hurt us offensivly only offensive issue i have with Tejada he has 0-3 hr power for second base that is not alot . But what Murphy gives offensily takes away with his defense or lack of.

Actually his defense was much improved last year for long stretches. But because it is an unnatural position for him his reaction to the slide clearly isn't good and if he is to stick there it has to become atleast adequate. For mets fans the best case scenario would be if jordany valdespin could play ss position and reese havens could stay healthy. That would be a dream scenario. Then you could have tejada as a utility infielder and murphy being able to play multiple positions for cheap.

I'm not a big Murphy fan at all. Thoughts on Justin Turner and what role he can play next year?
