Quick Game Notes:

  • Final Score: Mets 6 – Marlins 4
  • Box Score: Click here for the complete box score.
  • Mets Record: 1-1
  • Key Moment In The Game: In my opinion the key moment was the top of the 10th when David Wright singled in the go ahead run to break a 3-3 tie. The Mets went on to win 6-4.
  • Game Ball: David Wright: 3-5 | 2 RBI | 2 R.
  • Additional Comments:
  • Jon Niese: 7 IP | 4 H | 2 ER | 3 SO. Niese was taken out after 87 pitches, which I don’t understand why that was done but it all worked out in the end.
  • Josh Thole has a nice night at the plate: 3-4 | 1 RBI.
  • Brad Emaus: 1-4. Emaus collected his first major league hit tonight.
  • Francisco Rodriguez  blew a 3-2 lead in the 9th inning. He ended up getting the win tonight.
  • Blaine Boyer collected the save.
  • Willie Harris is off to a good start this year. He came in the 10th inning and got a big pinch hit, driving in 2 runs.
  • The Mets played their first extra inning game of the season (10 innings).
  • Terry Collins got his first managerial win since 1998.
  • Props to fellow blogger/twitter buddy Daily Stache who kept the faith after Rodriguez blew the save in the 9th. He said on twitter “The Mets Will Win, dont worry” and he was right :)
  • Up Next: The New York Mets play the rubber game of the series against the Florida Marlins: Sunday April 3, 2011 at 1:10 pm.

What was up with that pop up early on in the game between Emaus and Reyes, somebody has to catch that ball, also, heading into the bottom of the tenth, I wasn't sure who Collins was going to bring in to pitch, Parnell was used, and there was no way K-Rod was coming out after blowing the save, I thought Boyer did a good job aka the Verizon guy w/the red beard, of course David Wright, he redeemed himself for that bad play at third that prolonged the inning for Niese, I know it's only two games but the defense needs a little more fine-tuning, overall, great game to watch, congrats to Collins on the victory.

Pagan stealing 3B in the 10th was significant. It likely changed Dunn's approach to Harris, midway through the at-bat. I would bet Dunn was then concerned about the possibility of a pitch getting away, and bouncing to the back-stop, as Pagan scampered home.

Murphy did a good job at 2B today. You saw the nerves get him a bit on his first play, his throw to first was a bit low. But, after that, everything went well. I liked his play on the blooper to shallow center. Wind seemed to move it around some, and he did a nice job tracking it down.
