My Choice For Mets GM

Posted on by Kerel Cooper

The New York Mets recently announced that they are bringing back Josh Byrnes and Sandy Alderson for a second round of interviews. In the video below I give three reasons why I think Sandy Alderson should be the New York Mets next General Manager.

I agree, but want to add to something in regard to the respectability reason that has gone largely unsaid in all the discussions on Alderson.

Not only does he command respect in the league but I think he also adds a gravitas that can offset any notion, real or percieved that Jeff is a meddling bombastic VP of baseball.

Because Alderson has that respect, track record and gravitas Jeff will be much less likely to interfere with decisions and even if he tries, will most probably not be backed by Fred and Saul when the "Commission" meets to make the final decision.

Minaya was never the type of guy who was good at making his case. Just look at his press quotes for evidence of that. Alderson will be. So at this point in the franchise I think Alderson is just what the team needs to resolve any problems real or percieved that we may have right now.

Will he get us a World Series? No one can say for sure, but he will put us into a better position to do so.

Well said on Alderson. All you can ask from a GM is for them to set the organization in the right direction and put the team in a position to win. The players have to take it from there…
