I agree. Just one correction. Only one more year of Ollie. His contract runs through the 2011 season. He's a free agent in 2012. I looked up the Mets' obligations on Cot's http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2004/12/new-york…
Could the Mets actually get a draft pick in compensation?? That may be the best thing Ollie will provide the Mets for 3 years of…ummm…service. -
I will tell you what we have to lose….
We will lose the POINT of benching him altogether!
He should not start because nothing of that start is going to make his situation any better! Even if he pitches a no hitter your not going to get squat for him!
If you DO give him a shot it will leave many with the perception that we are going to give him another chance! Just imagine what will be posted on the blogs aftyer that!
It will also say to Ollie it's ok you were selfish and hurt your teamates by not accepting a minor league assignment to work out your issues so all is forgiven here take the ball and start for us.No Oliver needs to be made an example of! He should never get into a game wearing a Met UNI again!
Let him stew until he demands a trade and then tell him if he wants to go somewhere else to resume his career he needs to have his agent find someone who will take him and renegotiate a contract with them that will absolve us from having to pay any of his salary!-
