Stop Saying David Wright Isn’t Clutch
June 26, 2010During Thursday night’s 6-5 loss to the Tigers David Wright struck-out with the bases loaded in the 7th inning. That proved to be a pivotal point in the game. After that, my Twitter feed became full with the “David Wright is not clutch” statement. I am one who tends to disagree with this logic of thinking. I’m not saying that he’s the most “clutch” player in baseball but to say that he isn’t “clutch” at all is simply not true. There have been times when he’s come through in key moments and there are times when he hasn’t but I think the positive outweighs the negative in this situation.
Below are a few stats which show that for the most part David Wright has shown to be a “clutch” player.

By the way, don’t forget to vote for David Wright for the All-Star game. Stats courtesy of ESPN New York.

Thanks a good point but I just hate hearing that blanket statement of "David Wright is not clutch". Its just not an accurate thing to say (IMO).

The perception will not change until such time as he gets a pivotal hit or two in a big September game or in the playoffs. That is just the way it is. Welcome to ARod land.
