I’m looking forward to the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves (May 31-June 2, 2010). As a Mets fan I’m looking forward to watching the two teams ahead of my Mets beat each other up. Hopefully the Mets will gain some ground on one of them this week.
Extra’s:
In case you missed it, Kendry Morales of the Los Angeles Angels hit a walk off grand slam and broke his leg in the celebration. Below is video of what happened. What a terrible way to end up on the DL. Thanks to Dave over at The Mets Report for posting this video.
Key Moment In The Game: In my opinion the key moment was the top of the 9th when the Mets scored 4 runs which featured a Jeff Francoeur 2-run double. The Mets went up 10-4 and at that point the game was out of reach.
Game Ball: Jeff Francoeur: 4-5 | 2 RBI | 3 Runs
Additional Comments:
Mets were able to avoid the sweep by winning today.
The Mets have lost the last two after winning five in a row. Below is a look at some of the streaks the Mets and their players have been on this year. I’m sure there is more than this so feel free to add more in the comments section.
Losing Streaks:
4 in a row (April 10-14)
3 in a row (May 1-3)
5 in a row (May 12-16)
Winning Streaks:
8 in a row (April 22-30)
5 in a row (May 22-27)
Position Players:
Jason Bay: 9 game hitting streak (April 23-May 2)
David Wright: 15 games in a row with at least one strike out. (May 3- May 18)
Mets Pitchers:
Johan Santana: Went 4 starts without a win (May 2 -18)
Key Moment In The Game: In my opinion the key moment was the top of the 4th inning, with two outs when Todd Coffey entered the game. The Mets had scored in every inning, off every Brewers pitcher up until that point. Coffey pitched: 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 SO. He put the Mets bats to sleep and they never scored again.
Game Ball: Ike Davis: 1-5 | 1 HR | 3 RBI
Additional Comments:
Mets have lost 2 in a row after winning 5 in a row and are back to .500 (25-25).
Each team scored a run in every 1/2 inning for the first 4 innings. Then neither teams scored for the remainder of the game.
Jose Reyes extends his hitting streak to 7 games.
Mets were 5-16 with RISP.
Mets are now 6-16 on the road.
Fernando Nieve’s Line: 2 IP | 3 H | 5 ER | 5 SO | 3 BB
Up Next: The Mets play the third game of this series in Milwaukee against the Brewers: Sunday May 30, 2010 at 2:10pm.
The Mets lost another tough road game last night and so far this year have been bad on the road. Below is a break down comparing some of the home and road stats. I’ve highlighted in red the stats that I find most alarming on the road.
Key Moment In The Game: In my opinion the key moment was the bottom of the 9th when Corey Hart hit a walk-off game winning home run off Ryota Igarashi.
Game Ball: Rod Barajas: 2-3
Additional Comments:
Mets Pitching: The scoreless innings streak was snapped at: 35 2/3 IP

One last note from me on the Mets complete domination of the Phillies. Below is a look at how some of the offensive and pitching numbers stack up in the Mets sweep of the three game series.
In the video below I give my opinion as to why I feel the NL East is the most competitive division in baseball at this time. Watch the video and let me know your thoughts.
