  1. Bayonne Mets Fan says:

I don’t mind Reyes batting 3rd as an experiment while Beltran is out. Pagan was an adequate lead-off guy and Reyes has the ability to drive in runs and help fill out the middle of the lineup in Beltran’s absence. The only problem here is that you risk Reyes becoming power happy and it could change his approach which may not be a good thing. But while Beltran is out I would give it a shot and see how it goes.

Good point on Reyes possibly changing his approach. Thats the last thing we want to see happen. Also, I'm not so certain it's a foregone conclusion that Pagan is going to start in CF while Beltran is out. I think this is going to be more of a competition between he and GMJ than people think. Especially with the Mets lacking left handed bats in the lineup.

  2. Hey Kerel been following your blog for a few months now your doing a great job keep it up.
As far as Reyes hitting 3rd I have to disagree with you. If Reyes is Reyes and Pagan wins the CF Job (if not all this is moot) then batting Reyes 3rd will help lengthen the lineup.

Reyes 3rd with allow Jerry to go with Wright 4th and Bay 5th drop Murphy 6th to break up the righties Frenchy 7th and Barajas 8th with Pagan and Castillo hitting 1,2 at the top.

Keep in mind Pagan did hit over 77 games last year did hit .316 out of the leadoff slot.

Reyes can still steal when he gets on and if the concern is Reyes will swing for the fences well then that is something of a mental correction that needs to be made.

Keep in mind Jerry can also take Pagan out of the leadoff spot and put Reyes back once Beltran gets back dropping Pagan back on the bench.

Keep up the good work with the video blog our blog will be moving soon to FVF where they do video debates and maybe we can do a debate between blogs from time to time.

Thanks for the comments and compliments. I appreciate both. I'd love to do some video debates, just keep me posted. Regarding Reyes batting 3rd, I hear what your saying and it does make sense, I just feel that ultimately Reyes is going to be the leadoff hitter (when Beltran returns) and when healthy Reyes is one of the best leadoff hitters in the game. Why mess with that at all? Reyes batting 3rd does lengthen the line-up but it doesn't make up for the power/run producing bat that is missing until Beltran returns. With that said, I think it's that much more important for Reyes to leadoff get on base and cause some havoc in the first inning and get the Mets off to a good start.
