Yup I agree. I will admit it, I really didn't see this coming and didn't realize this until the trade. But hey, I don't get paid the big bucks to realize this upfront, Omar Minaya does and he most certainly missed the boat on this one!!!

The Mets butchered this situation, there really is no other way to put it. 2 high round draft picks are easily better than Carter, Lora, and the ~$3M salary relief they got.
Obviously the team's thinking was to save cash and not risk offering him arbitration since he might accept it and return for 1 year as a very very expensive setup man, but I personally never believed Wagner would accept it. He made it pretty clear he wants to a closer somewhere, and look what happened.
