Player Sighting: Former Mets Armando Benítez and Carl Everett
August 17, 2009Saturday night I attended an independent league baseball game between the Newark Bears and Somerset Patriots. The Patriots ended up winning 10-7 but it was interesting to see a couple former New York Mets players.
I was already aware that Armando Benitez was playing for the Bears as he tries to make a come back to the majors but was surprised when I saw Carl Everett out on deck, batting 4th for the Bears. Both seem to be playing well this season. According to the Newark Bears website, Everett is batting .321 with 14hrs in 87 games and Benitez has 14 saves. As for the game itself, Everett was 1-4 with a walk. Benitez did not play.
