Twitter Question: Sensitive Question Mets Fans: If the team can fill multiple needs (say LF & Starting Pitcher) would you be open to trading Reyes or Beltran?

Twitter Responses:

  • joewhitmarsh – Yes. It’s time to mix things up.
  • kranepool – trade Beltran keep Reyes
  • MaxwellRomero – maybe reyes but not beltran and ONLY for a solid SP one bat (short of Pujols) won’t cure our lineup problems.
  • darknova306 – I’m doubtful of Reyes’ long-term leg health, so he should go while he’s worth something.
  • Citi_Field – I would give up Reyes. Not Beltran. I’ll give up Fernando Martinez instead of Beltran.
  • csball2000 – Would definitely trade Reyes to fill needs. Team has too many holes.
  • ayshneck – trade reyes for a new medical/training staff!
  • swirlywand – I don’t want to trade Jose a) we don’t have another short stop b) I fear he would go on to be a star
  • dave_doyle – Keep Reyes! Good player, better contract.
  • RDevinHughes – I’m not a Mets fan…but heck no.

WHAT?!?!? Heck no I wont trade none of those players. 1 becasue Jose Reyes is to young to trade and he is going to be a star in the future. He is the face of this organization along with David Wright. I wont trade Beltran either becasue he is our best player right now and there is not a lot of people in the majors with beltran's talent. Beside I dont think there's a lot of teams out there that can afford to pay Beltrans I say no dont trade none of those players.

Thanks for the comments and I understand your point. It is difficult to let go of core players but at the same time answer me this: If we don't trade any of them, how do the Mets go about filling needs such as LF, Starting Pitching, Catcher and 1b?

  2. Manny says:

Just look at the Free agents that are going to be out there in 2010. Victor Martinez is going to be a free agent so the Mets can sign him to be a cacther…The Blue Jays are going to be willing to trade Roy Halladay. So we can give them some good prospects (not core players) but prospects. Also if im not mistaken I think Jason Bay is going to be a free agent as well so he can also be our left fielder. I know we cant get them all but those are guys we can get without trading none of our core players. I hope I answered your question.
