I think the Mets aren’t scoring behind Santana for a combination of reasons. First, he’s usually going up against the other team’s ace. Even bad teams usually have one really good starter. Second, I think the Mets may subconsciously expect Santana to do the heavy lifting for them when he pitches. They don’t feel the pressure to make plays like they would when someone else is pitching.
I have to say that Santana is so fun to watch. I’m thrilled he’s on our team for the next 6+ years!
