    Using pitch f/x, samt at amazing avenue suggests that the reason why Johan has been so effective is that he has added a new pitch (two seam fastball)

    I think the Mets aren’t scoring behind Santana for a combination of reasons. First, he’s usually going up against the other team’s ace. Even bad teams usually have one really good starter. Second, I think the Mets may subconsciously expect Santana to do the heavy lifting for them when he pitches. They don’t feel the pressure to make plays like they would when someone else is pitching.

    I have to say that Santana is so fun to watch. I’m thrilled he’s on our team for the next 6+ years!

    Thanks DJ. Good point. It will be interesting to see if the new pitch for Santana is effective the 2nd and 3rd time around when he faces the same teams.

    Dave – good point about Santana always matching up against other teams #1 starters. I would bet that is a factor in the 2 runs per game the Mets score for him.
