Player Profile: Carlos Beltran is On Fire

I have always regarded Carlos Beltran as the best all around Center Fielder in Baseball. He’s a gold glove outfielder with all the offensive tools anyone could want. So far this year (outside of a not sliding) he’s been the New York Mets best position player and proving to everyone why he was worth the 7-year, $119-million contract the Mets signed him to back in 2005.

Beltran is easily the hottest offensive player in the Mets line-up right now. He’s got a 15 game hitting streak and has reached base in every game this year. Beltran is batting: .400 | 4 HR | 18 RBIs. He hit two HRs on Monday and lead the Mets to a 6-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

At a time when Jose Reyes and David Wright are struggling and Carlos Delgado has been out due to injury, Beltran has been that core guy carrying the Mets offense. I think the one thing that is most impressive about Beltran’s hot start this year is his average. Beltran is a life time .282 hitter but he’s on pace to hit over .300 for only the third time in his career. He’s hitting the ball to all fields, and this is the most comfortable I’ve seen Beltran at the plate since he’s been a Met. Let’s hope it continues, but right now Carlos Beltran is on pace to have one of his best year as a New York Met.
